Rock and Roll Dreams - Showcasing the Songs of Jim Steinman.
Jim Steinman didn't just write songs for Meat Loaf. He penned a couple for Bonnie Tyler, some for himself, as well as hits for Air Supply, Celine Dion, Sisters of Mercy, Barry Manilow and Boyzone. This Grammy Award-winning record producer began his career in musical theatre - track down Tanz der Vampire when you have a moment. His new theatrical venture Bat out of Hell the musical opened to rave reviews at the London Coliseum in June 2017, and is slated to open in Toronto mid-October.
Rock and Roll Dreams is an unapologetic tribute to Jim Steinman’s song writing. The songs being showcased are some of his most “theatrical” works. Paradise by the Dashboard Light tells the story of one fateful evening, but evokes the fullness of a relationship and its vicissitudes. The twisted dream sequence that is Bat out of Hell charts a doomed attempt to escape the dangerous and alienating city. Musically speaking, Steinman accentuates the desperation in Total Eclipse of the Heart, the determination in Holding out for a Hero and the raw lust in Dead Ringer for Love with a sensibility that still brings people to their feet…and to tears. This sensibility is best exemplified in one of his great anthems where, when we are most in need, Rock and Roll Dreams come through.
Rock and Roll Dreams celebrates one of Steinman’s core messages, as well as his legacy, by bringing together ten experienced musicians and some of the region’s best young voices. They will ensure that the beat is yours forever!
